This is Ashley, the sweater's owner, wearing it on New Years Eve last winter. It's nice that the sweater gets some love because it would have just lurked in my room forever if I hadn't given it away. It's covered in twisted stitches. When I learned to crochet, I started wrapping my yarn differently and I didn't notice until ages later that I had started twisting stitches.

I used garter stitch around the edges and it curls like mad. The sweater also ended up being WAAAAAAAAAY too small for me to ever wear. It didn't have buttons on it when I told my friend she could have it. When she said she wanted it, I went and found the oddest selection of buttons that I could. There's a dinosaur, a sunflower, some fish, and much more. Apparently that was a good idea because Ashley adores the buttons.

I consider this sweater to be a bit of a disaster but it is well loved and worn. Ashley brags that I knit the sweater when ever someone asks about it. It gives me the warm fuzzies knowing that my friend appreciates hand knits so much. She's one of the only people that I knit for.

It's awesome when disasters turn out great for someone else! It looks well-loved.
ReplyDeleteIt is great! I think mistakes can just be "the quaint charm of handknitting". Lucky Ashley.

ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you think it's a disaster, but Ashley loves it. That is all that matters.
ReplyDeleteI love that you gifted it to a friend, I think we could all learn a little something from this, I'm always reluctant to give up hand knits.
ReplyDeleteAnd the quirky buttons are adorable!
